Prior authorizations

For certain services and procedures, your provider or hospital may need to get advance approval from Humana before your plan will cover any cost.  This is called prior authorization.  You can access a list of services and procedures that require prior authorization at Preauthorization and Notification Lists.

We want to make sure you have the right treatment for your condition, so there may be times when it’s necessary to get approval from Humana before getting a prescription filled. Your doctor or healthcare provider can contact Humana Clinical Pharmacy Review (HCPR) for approval at 800-555-CLIN (2546), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern time.

Virtual visits/telemedicine

Connect with a healthcare provider or behavioral health professional* virtually. 

Your primary care provider (PCP) and your specialist may offer virtual visits.

  • Virtual visits connect you with your healthcare provider via telephone or video chat using your phone, tablet or laptop.† 
  • Talk with a healthcare provider from the comfort of your home. 
  • Virtual visits are private, secure and confidential. 
  • Healthcare providers are available to treat many conditions, including allergies, fever, cold and flu symptoms, insect bites, stress, anxiety, depression and many others. 
  • Virtual visits might address needs, including changes to medicines, refills, ordering labs, tests and screenings, and help with the management of chronic conditions. 

If you don’t have a PCP or if your PCP doesn’t offer virtual visits, you can use the Find a doctor tool on the Humana website or call the number on the back of your member ID card to get connected with a healthcare provider that offers this service. 

* Behavioral health visits are by appointment.
